The Institute of Philosophy of the Slovak Academy of Sciences, v. v. i., is within the meaning of Act No. 131/2002 z.z. on Higher Education an external educational institution with accreditation for doctoral studies.

On the basis of an agreement with the Faculty of Philosophy of Comenius University in Bratislava, the Institute conducts doctoral studies in the study programme of Systematic Philosophy, both in the full-time form of study (length of study: 4 years) and in the part-time form of study (length of study: 5 years). In accordance with the relevant legal norms, the studies are conducted at the Faculty of Arts of Comenius University in Bratislava. The scientific part of the study takes place at the Institute of Philosophy in close cooperation with the PhD student's supervisor.

On the basis of an agreement with the Faculty of Philosophy of the University of Pavol Jozef Šafárik in Košice, doctoral studies in the study programme History of Philosophy are carried out at the Institute. This study programme can also be studied full-time (length of study: 3 years) or in the part-time form of study (length of study: 4 years). In accordance with the relevant legal norms, the study takes place at the Faculty of Arts of the University of Pavol Jozef Šafárik in Košice. The scientific part of the study takes place at the Institute of Philosophy in close cooperation with the PhD student's supervisor.

PhD themes for the next academic year are published no later than the end of February of each calendar year. Doctoral candidates please refer to the preparation of the doctoral research project, which is the part of application, with a potential supervisor. The deadline for applications is usually the end of May.
